lyrics
shoney the loney
Shoney was a preachin man
Though he hardly had the right
His secrets were the sins he kept
They crawled on him like lice
He knew you couldn't see them
When you were blinded by his smile
An odious little creature
Who crept around at night
Searching for the lost and lonely
Sheep that he might find
His Mother never knew him
She just spat him out
And left him to die
Shoney the lonely
Nobody comes to pray
At your side
Wonder why?
Mrs Campbell she would feed him
And take him in from time to time
She swore he was a seannachie
From some old clan or ancient tribe
He looked a lot like Rasputin
You could see God and Satan in his eyes
Shoney the lonely
Told her tales
That made her cry
They were lies
Deep in the forest undeneath the dying pines
There lay the sheep who were lost and found
Where the birds don't sing and the only sound
Is the howling wind as it blows the tall trees down
There's a body by the fireplace
With a poker in it's eye
You'd swear to God that it was moving
Such an ugly way to die
Mrs Campbell killed the preacher
And to the forest he is bound
Shoney the lonely
Lies with the sheep
Who were lost and found
In Mrs Campbell's sacred ground
Shoney the lonely
Drank tea with the Devil
And she stole his life
